Granite State College Launches NH's First Masters Degree in Project Management

Concord, NH - Granite State College will begin offering a Master’s of Science Degree in Project Management - the only degree of its kind in New Hampshire – this fall at its Manchester and Portsmouth campuses, and online statewide.

The Master’s program is the first graduate degree offered by Granite State College, which has provided undergraduate degree programs to students statewide since 1972. Over 54,000 New Hampshire students have attended Granite State College and the addition of a Master’s program, noted President Dr. Todd J. Leach, was a natural evolution for the college.

“Granite State College offers hands-on, practical and relevant education,” said Dr. Leach. “It was clear that it was time for the college to provide professional graduate degree programming, not only available to current students and alumni, but to others statewide.”

Granite State College’s Master’s Degree of Science in Project Management is a unique program in New Hampshire; no other college or university offers a distinct degree, purely devoted to Project Management.

“We carefully considered our options and chose to offer the Master’s Degree of Science in Project Management because of the need for those high-level skills across the workforce, in a variety of industries,” said Dr. Leach.  “We didn’t want to be duplicative or redundant. Rather, we wanted to be responsive to our state’s workforce and deliver them the skills and credentials they need to strengthen their careers and job prospects. Ultimately, the Master’s degree program is a natural extension of the GSC brand promise: accessible, useful, innovative and responsive.”

The first cohort of Master’s candidates will come together in the fall, for a September launch of classes. GSC is currently accepting applications for this inaugural class.

The program is designed for individuals who want to make a career change, current project managers who want to further develop in their profession and those in other disciplines who want to expand their job opportunities. Key skills development includes:

-    Effectively employing strategies for managing projects through the entire project cycle
-    Determining and managing risk for strategic and ethical decision-making
-    Managing changing project management environments including human resources, budget, timelines and workflow
-    Attaining competency in the components of project management required for certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)
