OLLI offers programs and courses for seniors aged 50 and over and celebrates “learning for the fun of it!”
Claremont, NH – At the invitation of local community leaders, OLLI at Granite State College, a program that offers classes to members aged 50 and over, has added a fifth New Hampshire site in Claremont.
The community's enthusiasm for OLLI, which stands for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, has generated Claremont's first-ever program offerings, set to begin in the Spring 2011 term. OLLI at Claremont will offer five classes in its introductory term and will be located at Granite State College at 27 Pleasant Street in downtown Claremont.
There will be a Spring term kick-off event on Wednesday, February 23 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Granite State College in Claremont. Anyone interested in OLLI’s 50+ programming is encouraged to attend. The kick-off event is free and refreshments will be provided.
New Claremont members may join OLLI for an introductory rate of $10 for the Spring 2011 term. The introductory membership may be extended through June 2012 for an additional $30.
The national OLLI network began in 2000, with grants from the Bernard Osher Foundation, to emphasize the importance of lifelong learning for everyone, at any age. The membership-driven OLLI program welcomes anyone over the age of 50 to become a member and attend its classes, where there aren’t any prerequisites or grades, but a genuine, widely held passion for learning. There are now 118 OLLIs in colleges and universities across the country, all of which celebrate a commitment to lifelong learning and “learning for the fun of it!”
The first and only OLLI in New Hampshire began in 2004 at Granite State College, one of four institutions of the University System of New Hampshire. Now 750 members strong, OLLI holds classes in four other locations across the state: Manchester, Concord, Conway and the Seacoast. OLLI at Granite State College in Claremont marks the state’s fifth OLLI site.
The OLLI Spring 2011 catalog will be available online by February 21. To request a copy of the catalog by mail, please call the OLLI Office at 603-513-1377 or email OLLI staff at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about OLLI, visit olli.granite.edu.
