Granite State College Presents Free Workshop: Take the Next Step Toward Enhancing Your Career and Education

Workshop takes place Tuesday, November 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Gorham, NH – Granite State College will offer a free workshop designed to arm attendees with a better understanding of their skills and strengths, higher education opportunities and job and career opportunities – all to empower attendees to find fulfilling jobs and launch thriving careers.

The free workshop, entitled Take the Next Step Towards Enhancing Your Career and Education, will take place Tuesday, November 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Family Resource Center at 123 Main Street in Gorham.

“The workshop is something we’ve created in response to what we see in our community and to what we’re hearing within our own college community,” said Elaine Millen, Associate Dean of Granite State College North Country. “As enrollments at Granite State College climb, we’re committed to arming our students with the skill sets and know-how it takes to begin new careers, enhance current careers and ultimately, live lives that are fulfilled and successful.”

As layoffs and downsizing amidst an economic downturn continue, there is an increasing opportunity: to pursue or complete higher education, reexamine career goals or even realign with that dream job. In fact, new students are flocking to higher educational institutions, including Granite State College, taking advantage of the opportunity to finish a degree, round-out a repertoire of professional development training or embark upon a new course of study altogether. Enrollments at Granite State College’s nine statewide centers are up nearly 20% overall.

The workshop will encourage attendees to consider their personal strengths, skills and interests in setting career goals and objectives. The workshop will also provide information about higher education opportunities, including identifying roadblocks – and strategies to move past those roadblocks – as well as discussion about online learning, financial aid, academic support, resources and the application process.

Granite State College (GSC) is one of four University System of New Hampshire institutions and a leader in online education. GSC offers associate and bachelor degrees, post-baccalaureate programs for teacher education and transfer opportunities.
