Granite State College and NH Employment Security Present Brown Bag Lunch Series: The Next Step Towards Enhancing Your Career and Education

Timely series comes as enrollments at GSC climb as students discover and pursue     new opportunities in economic downturn

Littleton, NH – Granite State College and New Hampshire Employment Security Office (NHES) have partnered to deliver an impactful series designed to arm attendees with a better understanding of their skills and strengths, higher education opportunities, job and career opportunities and resume and interview skills – all to empower attendees to find fulfilling jobs and launch thriving careers.

As layoffs and downsizing amidst an economic downturn continue, there is an increasing opportunity: to pursue or complete higher education, reexamine career goals or even realign with that dream job. In fact, new students are flocking to higher educational institutions, including Granite State College, taking advantage of the opportunity to finish a degree, round-out a repertoire of professional development training or embark upon a new course of study altogether.

Enrollments at Granite State College’s nine statewide centers are up nearly 20% overall and in Littleton, GSC is offering more classes, the average class size has gone up and enrollments are up 20%.

Granite State College and NH Works will provide a timely brown bag lunch series entitled “The Next Step Towards Enhancing Your Career and Education,” during lunchtime on October 8, 15, 22 and November 5. From noon to 1pm, the free series will address topics associated with career growth.

“The brown bag lunch series is something we’ve created in response to what we see in our community and to what we’re hearing within our own college community,” said Elaine Millen, Associate Dean of Granite State College North Country. “As enrollments at Granite State College climb, we’re committed to arming our students with the skill sets and know-how it takes to begin new careers, enhance current careers and ultimately, live lives that are fulfilled and successful.”

The series includes the following sessions:

  • Thursday, October 8: Understanding and Marketing Yourself for a Career – how to identify your specific strengths, skills and interests and how to market those attributes to get a job.
  • Thursday, October 15: Outstanding resumes and impressive interviews – how to make resumes and interviews your strong suits.

Nicole Horne, academic advisor at Granite State College Littleton and Melanie Collins of White Mts.
