April 4, 2009 - CONCORD
- The Granite State College Alumni Learner Association recently awarded Jennifer Morris of Gilmanton a $1,000 merit scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement, thoughtful career path and dedication to achieving lifelong goals.

Morris is currently working toward her self-designed Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management with a concentration in employee relations at Granite State College.  In addition to maintaining a 3.92 grade point average, Morris works fulltime as a Human Resources Administrator at Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford. She also volunteers as a member of the board of directors for a number of local organizations including the Horizons Counseling Center.

“I am so grateful for this scholarship,” said Morris who intends to pursue a career in human resource management upon graduation.  “Due to special circumstances I am currently the sole breadwinner in my family and financing my education has become increasingly difficult.  This award will make pursuing my education possible and is especially helpful since I am only four courses away from completing my degree.”

Morris is one of ten deserving Granite State College students selected this year by the ALA Board to receive an ALA Merit Scholarship,
“The awarding of these scholarships is truly an honor and a privilege that the board thoroughly enjoys,” said John Paine, Chairman of the ALA Board of Directors.  “Having the opportunity to actually make a difference in the life of a Granite State College learner is remarkable.”

More than $110,000 in scholarships has been awarded by the ALA to deserving Granite State College students since 1990.  Its scholarship program is funded by donations made by graduates of Granite State College.

In addition to their fund raising efforts, the Granite State College ALA also works together with current Granite State College students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state and to support the institution’s educational mission.
