ROMANOS RECEIVES MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
April 4, 2009 - CONCORD- The Granite State College Alumni Learner Association recently awarded Barbara Romanos of Strafford a $1,000 merit scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement, thoughtful career path and dedication to achieving lifelong goals.
Romanos is currently working toward her associate degree in General Studies at Granite State College. In addition to maintaining a 3.91 grade point average, Romanos is a member of the national honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda and works full time as a case technician with the State of New Hampshire Department of Education. She currently serves as president of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Association of Disability Examiners.
Following completion of her associate degree Romanos intends on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
“I have had a special affinity for children for as long as I can remember. The ALA Merit Scholarship will allow me to continue working toward my degree and my ultimate goal of teaching young children in a healthy environment,” said Romanos. “I look forward to working toward building a world that nurtures children, guiding and supporting them in their pursuits, while functioning as a steward for the earth. This award will help make that possible.”
Romanos is one of ten deserving Granite State College students selected this year by the ALA Board to receive an ALA Merit Scholarship,
“The awarding of these scholarships is truly an honor and a privilege that the board thoroughly enjoys,” said John Paine, Chairman of the ALA Board of Directors. “Having the opportunity to actually make a difference in the life of a Granite State College learner is remarkable.”
More than $110,000 in scholarships has been awarded by the ALA to deserving Granite State College students since 1990. Its scholarship program is funded by donations made by graduates of Granite State College.
