April 4, 2009 - CONCORD
- The Granite State College Alumni Learner Association recently awarded Ronald Crickard of Strafford a $1,000 merit scholarship in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement, thoughtful career path and dedication to achieving lifelong goals.

Crickard is currently working toward his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Technology at Granite State College.  In addition to maintaining a 3.81 grade point average, Crickard works full time as the district environmental coordinator for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Environment in Concord.

A member of the Bow Lake Camp Owners Association and environmental enthusiast, Crickard was awarded the Governors Initiative Award in 2004.

“Since entering the bachelor’s degree program at Granite State College I have learned how to become a more efficient educator and communicator,” said Crickard who hopes to pursue a career in environmental training. “Protecting the environment is a topic for debate at dinner tables, water coolers and political arenas.  The education I receive from Granite State College will help me stimulate that debate, enlighten those who choose to ignore the existence of environmental concern and will empower me to encourage the changes necessary to achieve my career, educational and life goals.”

Crickard is one of ten deserving Granite State College students selected this year by the ALA Board to receive an ALA Merit Scholarship,

“The awarding of these scholarships is truly an honor and a privilege that the board thoroughly enjoys,” said John Paine, Chairman of the ALA Board of Directors.  “Having the opportunity to actually make a difference in the life of a Granite State College learner is remarkable.”

More than $110,000 in scholarships has been awarded by the ALA to deserving Granite State College students since 1990.  Its scholarship program is funded by donations made by graduates of Granite State College.

In addition to their fundraising efforts, the Granite State College ALA also works together with current Granite State College students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state and to support the institution’s educational mission.
