BERLIN’S PAINE HONORED WITH VICTOR MONTANA AWARD
April 2, 2009 - CONCORD - Granite State College’s Alumni Relations Office has recently named John Paine of Berlin the 2009 Victor Montana Alumni Award recipient.
The award, named for Dr. Victor Montana, president of the college between 1990 and 2001, is given each year to a graduate who personifies Dr. Montana’s positive spirit and love of learning by demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, community service and his or her chosen profession.
“I am truly humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Paine, a 2004 graduate of Granite State College. “All I wanted to do when I got involved was to give back to a school that allowed me to reach my dreams. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I never expected anything in return.”
After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in management from Granite State College Paine went on to earn his MBA from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. He is currently a member of the Granite State College faculty.
Paine has been a member of the Granite State College Alumni Learner Association Board of Directors since 2006 and has served as Chair since 2007.
“John has been a champion of continued adult learning. His tireless efforts as Chair of the ALA Board have given its members direction and inspiration,” said Steve Cotter, treasurer of Granite State College’s ALA Board. “He has been instrumental in helping to fund and award the ten merit-based scholarships that the Board awards each year to Granite State College Learners. His vision for GSC Alumni relations has helped to pave the way for continuity to be maintained between GSC and its alumni.”
In addition to fund raising efforts, the Granite State College Alumni Learner Association also works together with current Granite State College students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state and to support the institution’s educational mission.
