GRANITE STATE COLLEGE RECOGNIZES NORTH COUNTRY CIVIC LEADER
Gail Paine to Receive 2009 Granite State Award

March 26, 2009 - CONCORD- Granite State College will present Intervale resident and longtime civic leader, Gail Paine, with the 2009 Granite State Award at this year’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 7 at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord. Paine is receiving the award in recognition of her years of service to the College and to the communities of Northern New Hampshire.

“Gail Paine is a true model for community service and engagement.  She is the consummate volunteer.   The Granite State Award is symbolic of her long term commitment to helping others by giving so much of her time to so many different organizations,” said Dr. Karol LaCroix, president of Granite State College.  “I am honored to recognize the contributions Gail has made to New Hampshire and look forward to presenting her with this award.”

Paine, a retired program director for the College of Lifelong Learning (now Granite State College), established a strong presence in the North Country for the College during her tenure.  Her work in planning, implementing and marketing degree programs and mentoring the faculty needed to teach  more than 100 college courses each year set the stage for the success Granite State College continues to experience.

Paine’s history of service to the Granite State reaches back more than 20 years and includes 10 years with the New Hampshire State Board of Education and 11 years as chairman of the New Hampshire Juvenile Parole Board.

Paine has also contributed her time to a long list of local efforts including the New Hampshire Distance Learning Commission, the Northern New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and Memorial Hospital.

Currently the Intervale resident serves as a board member on the Goldberg Foundation, Walker Foundation, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative Foundation, Tillotson Foundation, Visiting Nurses of Northern Carroll County, Mount Washington Valley Economic Council and Mount Musictop Music Advisory Committee.

Paine is also secretary of the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative and represents New Hampshire on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association board in Arlington, Virginia, where she is a member of the Administrative Committee and serves as chairman of the CEO Evaluation Committee.

Currently a Credentialed Cooperative Director, Paine is working towards the Credentialed Leadership Director degree for National Rural Electric Association directors.

Conferred by the University of New Hampshire Board of Trustees, the Granite State Award is given each year to an individual, agency, corporation or foundation that has made an outstanding contribution to New Hampshire.

Granite State College is one of four University System of New Hampshire institutions.  The college offers academic courses and programs in nine locations throughout New Hampshire and is committed to delivering affordable and convenient access to higher education via innovative programming.
