Roxanne Gonzales Named 5th President of Granite State College

The University System of New Hampshire has selected Dr. Roxanne Gonzales to serve as the next president of Granite State College. Dr. Gonzales has extensive academic leadership experience in adult continuing higher education. She most recently served as an academic dean and professor at Regis University, College for Professional Studies, in Denver, Colorado. This move will mark a return home for Gonzales, who previously served as a director of Prior Learning Assessment at Granite State College from 1994 to 2001.

“I am humbled and honored to serve the citizens of New Hampshire as the fifth president of Granite State College,” said Gonzales. “The mission of Granite State aligns perfectly with my belief that access to higher education is essential for learners to achieve personal, professional, and academic goals that ultimately benefit our communities. Granite State is well placed to serve adults of all ages in New Hampshire. I am thrilled to be leading the wonderful and dedicated team at Granite State College and to collaborate with her sister institutions within the University System and with our state’s community colleges. It is good to be home!”

At Regis University, Gonzales helped to lead the College for Professional Studies in stabilizing declining enrollments through new strategies, including marketing, retention, and focused articulation agreements with community colleges.

“Dr. Gonzales clearly understands how to meet the needs of adult workers who seek to elevate their social mobility,” said Chancellor Todd Leach. “Online delivery has become a critical part of making higher education accessible to Granite State’s student population, and Dr.Gonzales’ experience in this arena will ensure GSC continues to be one of the top providers of online education for the region. We are fortunate to have someone so passionate about higher education access as Dr. Gonzales to continue the important mission of Granite State College.”

“We are very excited to have Dr. Gonzales take the lead of Granite State College at this critical time. Granite State College serves an important mission for New Hampshire in educating our adult workforce. Seventy-two percent of GSC’s students work full time while earning their degrees, and ninety-two percent of those graduates remain in New Hampshire, contributing to the local and statewide economies,” said USNH Chairwoman Pamela Diamantis. “This is an institution that can be a real game changer – for not just our students, but also our state.”

Gonzales will assume her responsibilities as president on April 28. The position, which has been filled on an interim basis by Kathi Mullin, chief administrative officer, was vacated in June by Dr. Todd Leach, who served as president until being named chancellor by the University System Board of Trustees.
