Great Bay Community College and Granite State College Partner to Offer Affordable Pathways to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree

Granite State College (GSC) and Great Bay Community College (GBCC) are hosting a ceremony on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at Great Bay to celebrate the signing of a memorandum of agreement and co-location of Granite State College on-site at GBCC’s Portsmouth campus. This event will mark the beginning of a new partnership between the colleges that offers students an affordable pathway to a bachelor’s and master’s degree program.

Ross Gittell, Chancellor of the Community College System, and Todd Leach, Chancellor of Granite State College, will speak to the significance of this initiative and other enhanced collaborations between the community college and university systems.

GBCC President Will Arvelo, “This partnership has enabled GBCC to develop a robust presence at the undergraduate level on our campus. We are excited to offer students who want to continue on for their bachelor’s degree and in some areas, their master’s degree a seamless and affordable option as well as the opportunity to continue to be a part of our community. GBCC and GSC believe in stewarding state resources and this creative partnership is an innovative way to leverage limited funds.”

There are more than 25 bachelor’s degree programs and three master’s programs at GSC. The academic offerings available at the Great Bay location will be selected through an analysis of the current GBCC student body and recent graduates, so that each program can provide maximum opportunity and career mobility for students. One of the first programs available is GSC’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“The R.N. to B.S.N. program is a prime example of what Great Bay and Granite State wish to accomplish together. Health care is one of today’s top industries and nursing is a dynamic field with many career opportunities in New Hampshire. Through our partnership, our goal is to develop more programs that will both empower students to build thriving careers and contribute to the areas of New Hampshire’s workforce that can benefit from employees who have achieved a bachelor’s or master’s degree,” said Kathi Mullin, Chief Administrative Officer of Granite State College.

Granite State College is located on-site at Great Bay’s Portsmouth campus on the second floor. This new site joins nine additional Granite State College campus locations, including local campuses in Rochester and Portsmouth. To learn more, please visit
