Granite State College Receives National Recognition for Providing Affordable Access to Higher Education

Concord, NH – Amidst widespread discussion surrounding the rising cost of tuition at public higher education institutions in New Hampshire, Granite State College (GSC) has achieved a top position in the Washington Monthly's 2012 liberal arts college rankings for "Social Mobility," securing the #1 ranking in New Hampshire and #2 in the country. Additionally, Granite State was recognized in the top 100 of liberal arts colleges for providing overall “public good.”
Since 2005, the Washington Monthly has published their college rankings based on three critical factors:  social mobility, research production, and commitment to service. The Social Mobility category gives colleges credit for enrolling students with financial challenges and helping them earn degrees. According to the editorsthe rankings assess student success through predicted and actual graduation rates, along with the overall cost for attendance, so colleges that are both effective and inexpensive receive the highest marks.
“At GSC, we emphasize our access mission with the trustees, the legislature, and the general public. Social mobility is exactly what college access is all about and it is extremely satisfying that we are being recognized for the important role we play and the work we do,” said Dr. Todd J. Leach, President of Granite State College.
As one of four public institutions within the University System of New Hampshire, GSC services a statewide student population with affordable tuition, 100% online degree programs, four full-service campuses, and six additional academic sites throughout the state.
