Internationally Renowned Expert to Present at GSC Math Academy
Nashua, NH –   Dr. Dylan Wiliam, an internationally-renowned expert on educational assessment, will be the keynote speaker at Granite State College’s Math Academy on July 18, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua.  Dr. Wiliam is an Emeritus Professor of Educational Assessment at the Institute of Education, University of London, where he served as Deputy Director from 2006 to 2010. Throughout his career, he has taught in urban public schools, directed a large-scale testing program, served a number of roles in university administration, including Dean of a School of Education, and pursued a research program focused on supporting teachers to develop their use of assessment as a key component for learning. In his keynote presentation, Dr. Wiliam will discuss the topic of Embedded Formative Assessment, a subject on which he has published numerous scholarly articles (including this article from the prestigious academic journal Educational Leadership).
Wiliam’s presentation marks the start of the inaugural Granite State College Math Academy, a two-day event that explores the building blocks and learning progressions that provide the highest possibility of success for student learners as evidenced by student achievement. Four teams of educators will be working together over two days to acquire actionable ideas and a breadth of knowledge about teaching strategies that they can use in their daily instruction. While the selection process for Math Academy participants was competitive, Dr. Wiliam’s keynote presentation is open to anyone who would like to attend. Tickets are available for $160 in advance for school teams or individuals, and $175 at the door. To make a reservation, contact the School of Education at 603.822.5431, or register online by clicking here.
