The Mission of Granite State College

The Mission of Granite State College is to expand access to public higher education to adults of all ages throughout the state of New Hampshire.

The college achieves this mission by offering degree, certificate, and contract programs of excellence that serve our communities through learner responsive curricula, innovative teaching methods, and ongoing assessment of learning outcomes. Granite State College fosters partnerships with area businesses, local and state organizations, and other higher education institutions in order to bring high quality academic experiences to the residents of New Hampshire in an effective and efficient manner.

Granite State College will be nationally recognized as a leader in meeting the academic needs of adult learners by offering programs and services of the highest quality that address the educational and workforce priorities of our state and region. Our statewide presence, unique programs, and responsive delivery models will enable the college to provide a greater number and more diverse group of learners with increased educational opportunities.

Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation

Granite State College's RN to BSN Program is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The College Organization

The College is one of four institutions that comprise the University System of New Hampshire (USNH). Our three USNH sister institutions are Plymouth State University, Keene State College, and the University of New Hampshire.

The USNH Board of Trustees, which governs these institutions, delegates administrative oversight to the Chancellor and the USNH Administrative Board, consisting of the presidents of the USNH institutions and the Chancellor.

New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)

Granite State College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the Commission indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied though a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the Commission is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Fifth-Year Interim Report (2010)

Submitted to New England Association of Schools and Colleges in August 2010, Granite State College’s Fifth Year Interim Report, reports on progress made since the completion of the 2006 Self-Study. The fifth-year interim report projects areas of focus for the next five years.

Focused Visit (2009)

The focused visit provides a means of monitoring specific areas identified for evaluation between comprehensive self-study reports.   In 2009, Granite State College submitted a Focused Visit Report which addressed seven areas that were identified for the focused evaluation.  This report provides a description of the areas of focus and the College’s assessment of its progress achieved in addressing these issues and future plans for improvement.

Institutional Self-Study (2006)

The self-study process allows Granite State College to demonstrate that it adheres to NEASC Standards across eleven dimensions of institutional quality. The report presents an objective description of the present status of the College's activities with regard to each standard, an appraisal of how well the College meets the standard, and a projection of plans, and commitments to maintain the standards.
